FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the Fit Check free?

Yes. The 20-minute Fit Check is free, with no obligation.

Do you have an asset minimum?

No. We work with people who are just starting out, people who have saved for a lifetime, and everyone in between.

How are you paid?

Only by my clients, through the hourly fees on the Services & Fees page. I don't receive commissions or referral fees, and I don't charge ongoing asset-management fees. I don't sell investment or insurance products.

How long is a quote good for?

30 days. You're under no obligation, and paid work starts only when you sign our agreement.

What if I change my mind after signing?

You can cancel within 5 business days of signing with no penalty, and all fees are refunded promptly. After that, either of us can end the agreement at any time with written notice. You pay only for the hours worked before it ends, at $325 per hour, and any unearned prepaid fees are refunded within 30 days. If River Cove doesn't perform the agreed-upon services, you'll be refunded any fees paid for services not performed. The agreement ends automatically when your final plan is delivered.

Are there any other costs?

My fee covers my advising services only. Any recommendations for items such as investments, insurance products, tax preparation services or estate planning documents will be paid by you to the provider of your choice. Regardless of what you choose to implement, I receive no commissions, referral fees or other incentives.

How do I pay?

By check, credit card or bank transfer (ACH).

Are you independent, or part of a larger company?

I'm a fully independent registered investment adviser, with no sales quotas to fill and no shareholders to satisfy.

Will you manage my investments?

No. I don't manage client funds or have discretion to make changes to your investments. I'll analyze your current holdings and make recommendations based on your goals, risk tolerance and time horizon. If you'd like help putting them in place, I can help you complete account paperwork or draft letters of instruction for you to sign, and that time is included in the hourly estimate. You make any changes yourself. I never have power of attorney, discretion or custody over your accounts.

Are you a fiduciary?

Yes. As a registered investment adviser, I have a fiduciary duty to act in your best interest.

Do I have to live in Minnesota?

No. I can work with clients across the country, subject to each state's registration rules.

Do you meet in person?

Meetings are usually by video. If you live in the Twin Cities metro area, we can arrange an in-person meeting.

Do you only work with self-employed people?

Nope! All are welcome. Self-employment is a focus for the firm, but the mission is to provide objective, affordable advice to anyone looking for it.

Do you do annual reviews or anything ongoing?

The goal is to be a resource for you for the long haul. There's no ongoing monitoring of your accounts, but you're welcome back any time there's a life change, you'd like an annual review, or new questions come up. We'll sign a new agreement at the hourly rate, based on what you'd like to review.

Where can I check your background?

My registration and employment history are public on FINRA BrokerCheck and the SEC's Investment Adviser Public Disclosure site. River Cove Financial's CRD number is 344672. Links are in the footer.
